"Swingin' Zen: How Golf Keeps Your Mental Game Strong in the City"
As 3 guys from London, we want to dive into the world of golf and how it became the go-to mental health oasis for us in the London town. So, as Notorious BIG said, ‘take off your tim boots’, put your feet up and let's talk about why golf is the ultimate stress-buster.
Tee Time: Escaping the Tubes
Life in the city can be more chaotic than having to deal with a couple of Karen’s at work! Work deadlines, traffic jams, and someone breathing on you on the tube whilst you’re just trying to listen to your ‘New year, New me’ podcast – it's enough to make anyone want to hibernate. But imagine this, the weekend is here. It’s you, your mates (and a random guy who booked in to make it a four ball, who’s actually pretty half decent despite rocking clubs from the 80s) standing on the tee box, surrounded by nothing but greenery and the sounds of birds chirping.. No traffic jams, no packed tubes – just the satisfying feeling of a well-hit ball – or so we hope! It's like a holiday, but without the airport queues. We found golf to be our ticket to sanity in the midst of the chaos.
Networking with a Side of Swinging
In a world dominated by LinkedIn updates, TikTok trends and 8am Zoom meetings booked in by your boss, golf brings back the lost art of face-to-face networking. That guy we talked about above, he happens to own a really good restaurant which you and your mates are now invited to!
Building connections on the golf course is the OG LinkedIn. It's where you can discuss business deals, share success stories, and maybe even have a little competition on who can sink the longest putt. The real winners are the ones with the best stories to tell back at the clubhouse. You never know who you might meet – and remember the 19th hole is always the most important.
Yoga but muddier
Golf isn't just a game; it's a philosophy for city peace. Each swing, each putt is a lesson in patience and mindfulness – qualities we all desperately need in the hustle and bustle in that thing we called life.
Life always has it’s frustrations, like a set of temporary traffic lights right outside your house, but on the golf course, you have to learn to take things in your stride. A missed putt here, a bunker there – it's all part of the game. Golf teaches you that sometimes you've gotta chill, take a deep breath, and line up for the next shot. We think of it a bit like yoga, but with more mud on your trousers and maybe the odd dollop of goose doo-doo on your brand new shoes.
Laughing Off the Bogey Blues
In a world that takes itself way too seriously, golf is the one place where you're encouraged to embrace the absurdity and have a good laugh. The questionable fashion choices, the unexpected bounce that sends your ball into the trees – it's all fair game.
So, let loose, crack a joke or a beer and let the laughter bounce off the fairway. In the game of golf, a well-timed fart is the ultimate secret weapon. Who knew that a belly laugh could be the perfect antidote to a double bogey.
The Range
We know in the UK the rainy weather is just as unsurprising as the staff at Starbucks spelling your name wrong, but don’t you worry! The driving range is here to help with that. A chance to either endure more frustration or for continuous micro-improvements, the range is a must.
In all fairness it’s the perfect place to take time out for yourself, put your headphones on while listening to some great music on Spotify, focus on a few parts of your game, and get you pumped for the next time you’re out on the course.
What’s that you ask? What do I wear at the driving range? I thought you’d never ask. We’ve got you! Check out our oversized tees perfect for the range, a casual course or chillin’ at home whilst thinking you’d be able to win Squid Game: The Challenge.
Golf in the modern era isn't just about chasing a little white ball around a green field. It's about taking time out for you and your mates, away from your phone, real networking, embracing life's ups and downs, and laughing off the bogey blues. So, next time you're feeling the city stress, grab your clubs, hit the course, and let golf be your swingin' sanctuary.
